A cutting-edge technology
Over time, factors such as aging, exposure to the sun, environmental pollutants, and acne damage affect our appearance. Your skin might be marred by acne scars, pigmented lesions, vascular lesions, rosacea, and other blemishes.
At Vilate Med Spa in Salt Lake City, UT, we use cutting-edge IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) technologies to give you a light facial, rolling back years of damage from your skin.
What is IPL Photofacial?
IPL photofacial is essentially a facial or skin rejuvenation treatment performed via the healing properties of light energy. IPL devices deliver scattered wavelengths of different lights to penetrate various skin levels without damaging the epidermis, i.e., the outermost layer.
The biggest advantage of IPL photofacial is that your cosmetic provider has complete control — they can specifically target different depths and skin conditions for incredibly personalized treatment. Depending on your condition, IPL photofacial can address age spots, sun damage, acne scars, acne, rosacea, unwanted hair, skin laxity, etc.
If you’ve got acne-prone skin, IPL devices can kill the p.acnes bacteria to prevent acne production. They can also address the hyperpigmentation issues on your skin, regulate melanin production, and kill the hair follicles of unwanted hair. If you have vascular lesions, the IPL light heats the broken capillaries and blood vessels to make them collapse.
IPL photofacial also reverses the signs of aging, giving you smoother and firmer skin. As the light energy seeps deep within your skin’s dermis, it activates the production of collagen fibers. Over time, your body produces more collagen to tighten your skin tissues, reduce wrinkles, shrink enlarged pores, and improve your overall skin texture.

IPL Photofacial Treatment Options
Lumecca is a state-of-the-art IPL device for the photofacial treatment of vascular lesions, rosacea, spider veins, hyperpigmentation, freckles, and unwanted body hair. The Lumecca device delivers specific wavelengths of light to address the pigmented and vascular lesions on your skin’s surface. The pigments absorb the light and are destroyed, giving you smoother and brighter skin.
Lumecca is an incredibly powerful device, delivering up to thrice as much energy to address vascular lesions as other IPL devices. As such, you can remove your vascular lesions in 1 or 2 sessions instead of the usual 4 to 6 sessions. It also includes a large spot size with rapid pulse repetition, reducing the treatment time significantly. The sapphire cooling tips ensure your comfort throughout the procedure.
Lumenis Stellar M22

Each technology included in the Stellar M22 platform is specifically designed to address different skin concerns. Collectively, the entire platform can treat over 30 skin conditions.
Depending on your skin concern, your doctor will recommend the ideal technology or modality for leg veins, vascular lesions, rosacea, skin laxity, acne breakouts, acne scars, textural irregularities, hyperpigmentation, tattoos, or other concerns. The treatments are incredibly effective and comfortable — just one pass of the device is enough to address your skin concerns.
Who is a Candidate?
IPL photofacial is suitable for everyone, regardless of age, gender, skin type, skin color, or skin concern. Whether you have skin laxity, age-related wrinkles, vascular lesions, acne damage, hyperpigmentation, unwanted tattoos, etc., the IPL photofacial treatment is personalized to address your unique concerns.
Dr. Jason Johnson will start the treatment with a consultation to examine your skin tissues to assess your concerns. He’ll also review your medical history and discuss your cosmetic goals to determine if you’re the ideal candidate for the procedure.
How to get started
Your consultation with Dr. Johnson goes beyond simply determining your candidacy for the treatment. He’ll also recommend the ideal treatment modality for your specific skin concerns, discuss the procedure details, and answer all your questions.
What to expect from your treatment
Your skincare clinician will clean the treatment areas before the procedure. They’ll apply a cool numbing gel over the treatment areas to ensure you have a painless experience. You might also have to wear protective eyeglasses.
The doctor will use the chosen IPL device to deliver the desired wavelengths of light into your skin’s surface. As the device is moved over the treatment area, you might feel a little sting or warmth — some patients liken the sensation to being snapped with a rubber. The treatment should conclude within 30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.
You can resume your daily activities immediately — no downtime. The results will gradually become evident over the next few days. You’ll need additional sessions for optimal results. But the specific number of sessions and their frequency depends on your unique skin concerns and the chosen treatment modality.
